As It Should Be
Childhood,
Our philosophy
Learn, grow & play naturally.
Children are not simply preparing for life.
They are already living it.
The Nature Play Philosophy
Responsive Situational Approach
At Little Farm Early Learning, we believe childhood is not simply preparation for the future. Childhood is life being lived right now.
It is a time for wonder, exploration, friendship, imagination, discovery and meaningful connection. It is a time when children begin to understand who they are, what they are capable of and where they belong.
Our approach honours children as capable, curious and important people. We create an environment where every child feels safe enough to be themselves, confident enough to explore their ideas and supported enough to grow in their own way.
Here, children are not rushed through their childhood.
They are given the time, trust and opportunity to experience it fully.
Learning That Responds To The Child
Our educational philosophy is built around what we call a Situation Responsive Approach.
Rather than expecting every child to follow the same program, routine or learning experience, we observe, listen and respond to the children in front of us.
Our educators consider each child’s interests, needs, emotions, relationships and stage of development.
When children are deeply engaged, they are given time to continue. When they need rest, movement, reassurance or connection, we respond.
Learning is still thoughtful and intentional, but it is flexible enough to honour real children living real lives.
We Observe
We take the time to notice what children are exploring, communicating and experiencing.
We Listen
Children’s voices, questions and ideas help guide their learning.
We Respond
Experiences are shaped around the interests and needs of the children in front of us.
A Rhythm, Not A Routine

A Rhythm, Not A Routine ·
We Extend
Educators introduce new ideas, resources and questions that deepen children’s thinking.
We Reflect
We continually consider the impact of our environments, relationships and teaching practices.
Here each day is different. What to expect?
At Little Farm, we create a daily rhythm rather than expecting every child to follow a rigid routine.
Children are supported to eat when they are hungry, rest when they are tired, move when their bodies need movement and engage deeply when they feel inspired.
They are given opportunities to return to unfinished projects, continue meaningful play and explore ideas without being unnecessarily interrupted.
Our days still provide consistency, structure and security.
They also include the flexibility needed to respond to each child with respect.
We do not ask children to fit into the day.
We shape the day around the children within.
Nature As A Learning Partner
Nature is not simply something we teach children about. It is something they experience.
The outdoors is not a break from learning.
The outdoors is learning.
More Than An Early Learning Centre
Every decision we make begins with a simple question:
What Impact Have We Had Today?
Everything we do is guided by this one important question. It is measured how your little ones feel.
Do they feel safe? Do they feel heard?
Do they feel respected? Do they feel valued?
Do they feel inspired to explore? Do they feel like they belong?
When children feel secure, connected and deeply known, meaningful learning can follow.
Every conversation, every interaction and every experience has the potential to leave a lasting impression. We take that responsibility seriously.
We see every child as capable, competent and worthy of respect.
Their questions matter. Their ideas matter.
Their relationships matter. Their childhood matters.
Our educators walk alongside children rather than directing every part of their day. We observe, listen and respond, creating opportunities for children to explore their interests, build meaningful relationships and develop confidence in their own abilities.
Most importantly, we create a place where children feel they truly belong.
Values that
Guide us
Our values shape the way we speak, listen, teach, care and connect.
They are not simply words displayed on a wall.
They are reflected in the everyday experiences of our children, families and educators.
-
Every child deserves to feel safe, respected, included and celebrated for exactly who they are.
Belonging begins when children are genuinely known.
When children feel that they belong, they are more willing to explore, communicate, connect and learn.
Our educators take the time to build trust, understand each child and create meaningful connections with families.
-
We believe wonder is the beginning of all learning.
Children are naturally curious about the world around them. They ask questions, test ideas, investigate possibilities and create meaning through play.
Our role is not always to give children the answer.
It is to help them enjoy discovering it.
-
Children have rights, voices, ideas and emotions that deserve to be heard.
We involve children in decisions, listen to their perspectives and respect their individual needs and rhythms.
We respond to the child in front of us rather than expecting every child to behave, communicate or learn in the same way.
-
Every interaction matters.
A gentle response, a thoughtful conversation or a moment of encouragement can influence the way a child sees themselves.
We believe education is created through thousands of meaningful moments.
Our responsibility is to make those moments count.
